Conyers Mayor Connie Alsobrook secures FIFA World Cup 2026™ watch party licenses for 4 local venues
Article from On Common Ground News.
CONYERS, GA – The City of Conyers is preparing to join in the excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ after four local venues received approval to host official public viewing events.
Mayor Connie Alsobrook worked diligently within a limited timeframe to secure the necessary FIFA public viewing licenses, creating an opportunity for local businesses to participate in one of the largest sporting events in the world.
“The FIFA World Cup coming to Georgia presents a tremendous opportunity not only for our state but also for our local businesses and community,” said Alsobrook. “This is the true meaning of economic impact, bringing people together, driving commerce, supporting local businesses, and creating opportunities throughout our community. Securing these licenses is a significant win for Conyers, and I am excited for the merchants who will be hosting viewing parties and welcoming residents and visitors alike.”
The approved venues will be able to host public watch parties for FIFA World Cup matches, providing residents and visitors with opportunities to gather, celebrate, and enjoy the tournament in a community setting. The viewing events are expected to generate additional foot traffic for local businesses, while contributing to the overall economic activity associated with the World Cup’s presence in Georgia.
Georgia is expected to welcome visitors from around the world, creating opportunities for local communities to showcase their hospitality, businesses, and attractions.
The City of Conyers has a long-standing history of hosting international sporting events through the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, which served as an official venue for equestrian and mountain biking events during the 1996 Olympic Games. The venue remains a thriving destination that continues to host regional, national, and international events throughout the year, supporting tourism, community engagement, and large-scale sporting-related activities.
Alsobrook said the approved FIFA venues can host public watch parties, but they must:
- Show the matches live
- Not imply a FIFA partnership
- Avoid unauthorized FIFA logos and branding
- Follow local permits and safety requirements
- Keep the events non-political
The following Conyers businesses have been approved:
- Chiquitos Cantina and Grill
1161 Old Salem Road S.E. - Cozumel Mexican Restaurant
425 Sigman Road N.W. - Elevation Kitchen & Cocktails
1180 Sigman Road NE - The Whistle Post Tavern
